To the top of the world!
Marty’s photo of the day #2877: For yesterday’s photo of the day, we were in Antarctica. Today we go from the bottom of the world to the top of the world for this female Lapland longspur that I photographed in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Antarctica tops my list
Marty’s photo of the day #2876: When I speak at colleges, students always ask which of the seven continents I enjoyed visiting the most. When I say “Antarctica,” they’re always surprised. While every continent has its share of amazing physical features, there’s just something about Antarctica’s massive blue icebergs that make the continent extra-special.
Octopus time warp
Marty’s photo of the day #2875: In this photo, I’m enjoying the company of an octopus, in the Sea of Cortez. If you look closely you can see one of the octopus’s eyes and its siphon (which is what gives it jet propulsion to “fly” through the water). Note how wrinkled my fingers are. Spending […]
Fur seal sparring match
Marty’s photo of the day #2874: I photographed these fur seals on an island off the coast of Antarctica. The day was foggy, still, and quiet. The seals were calm until they saw me. Then they broke into an impromptu sparring match—their roars slicing through the silence. Show-offs!
Girl on the rocks
Marty’s photo of the day #2873: Proving that Maxfield Parrish missed painting the finest “girl on the rocks,” this sea lion relaxes on a beautiful day in the Sea of Cortez.
Vote out the führer. Don’t impeach!
Yesterday Führer Trump tweeted: “I wonder if the New York Times will apologize to me a second time, as they did after the 2016 Election. But this one will have to be a far bigger & better apology. On this one they will have to get down on their knees & beg for forgiveness-they are […]
The coolest snake in the forest
Marty’s photo of the day #2872: Of all the snakes one could encounter anywhere in the world, eyelash vipers may be the coolest. First, they come in a variety of colors, from green to brown to pink to yellow to white—and all those colors can come from the same litter. Second, they have rough scales […]
When butterflies deliver your mail
Marty’s photo of the day #2871: I dedicate today’s photo to Wanda LaCroix. She lives in Grecia, Costa Rica, and on February 1st I mailed her a copy of my new novel, “Time Is Irreverent 2: Jesus Christ, Not Again!” According to USPS tracking, the book traveled from Victor, Montana to Missoula to San Francisco […]
Earth Day photo for Republicans
Marty’s photo of the day #2870: Today is Earth Day, and if you’re a Republican, I know this is a miserable day for you. Why would anyone want to talk about saving the planet for future generations, when nothing is more important than the money you are making right now? Fuck your children and grandchildren, […]
Halestorm rocks!
Marty’s photo of the day #2869: Sometimes you just need to forget about politics and work and have some fun. Deb and I drove most of the day yesterday to get to Billings for the Halestorm concert. We had a wonderful dinner in a nice restaurant and then enjoyed an incredible concert from Halestorm. The […]
Caribou in the Arctic
Marty’s photo of the day #2868: A caribou glides across the tundra in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Lucy under the . . .
Marty’s photo of the day #2867: Okay, everyone sing, “Lucy under the sky with flowers!” Okay, perhaps I need to work on my lyrics a bit. But I know there’s a hit there somewhere.
Kingston Ferry
Marty’s photo of the day #2866: Greetings from Lynnwood, WA (just north of Seattle). Today I perform a 12:30 p.m. show at Edmonds Community College. Yesterday, I was on the opposite side of the Puget Sound for a show at Olympic College. To get where I am now, I had a choice of driving south […]
Leopard Seal
Marty’s photo of the day #2865: Greetings from Bremerton, WA (near Seattle). I have 3:00 pm show today at Olympic College. If you are nearby, come see the show! One of the animals I talk about in “Around the World in 50 Minutes” is a leopard seal. Here’s one that I photographed off the coast […]
Amazon Tree Boa
You know you are in trouble when . . .
Marty’s photo of the day #2863: You know you are in trouble when the swan gives you the stink eye. (Photographed in Italy)
Trump entices fans to kill for him
Donald Trump will forever be the worst president in the United States, because he is the only president who openly tries to entice his fans to kill for him. In my opinion, he already succeeded once, by giving the man who would become the Capital Gazette shooter that extra push, that extra permission, to kill […]
One badass frog
Marty’s photo of the day #2862: Monkey frogs are my favorite species of frog. They are pretty fearless, they don’t feel like frogs (they feel waxy), and they aren’t really even shaped like frogs. I photographed this beauty in the Amazon Rainforest of Peru.
