Marty’s photo of the day #4766: Every once in a while, I go back through my Antarctica photos to see if I can find a good one that I haven’t posted before. Found one! This is a gentoo penguin.

Lionfish
Marty’s photo of the day #4765: I photographed two lionfish off the coast of Belize earlier this year. The species is not native to the area, and both were in cloudy water. Even so, after seeing little ones in aquariums it was fun to see much bigger ones in the wild.
The Secret Spot
Marty’s photo of the day #4764: Blue lupines at Deb’s and my Secret Spot. (Photographed somewhere in western Montana that tourists won’t find. We’ll never say where.)
Half-Human Dog
Marty’s photo of the day #4763: It’s time for an artsy shot. I call this: Half-Human Dog with Stogie and Hangover.
My Freediving Wife
Marty’s photo of the day #4762: When Deb and I were in Bonaire last September, the two consumer-quality underwater cameras I brought soon began to leak. That sent me on a desperate search to buy what turned out to be the one-and-only pro-quality underwater camera for sale on the entire island: a Sealife Micro 3.0. […]
Don’t Look At Me!
Marty’s photo of the day #4761: “Hey, don’t look at me. They’re not my responsibility!” Canada geese chicks and a ring-necked duck. Photographed in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana.
Blackbird Caye at Night
Marty’s photo of the day #4760: I shot this photo last month from the deck of Deb’s and my over-the-water cabana. This is the dock at Blackbird Caye, 30 miles off the coast of Belize.

Marty’s photo of the day #4759: Here’s a male frigatebird, showing off the red feathers on his gular sac. Photographed last month off the coast of Belize.
The Big Python
Marty’s photo of the day #4758: It’s been a long time since I’ve posted a snake photo. So here we go! This is an eleven-foot-long African rock python that I caught and released in Zimbabwe, while working on my first book, Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents.
Creativity Via Dog
Marty’s photo of the day #4757: I only occasionally talk about cameras on social media, because when someone says, “That’s a great picture! You must have a great camera,” it’s kind of like saying to a chef, “This tastes wonderful! You must have great pots.” Nevertheless, I have fallen in love with my new Olympus […]
Baby Robin, Final Thursday
Marty’s photos of the day #4756: We’ve reached the third and final Baby Robin Day. As many of you remember, two Thursdays ago (MPOD #4742), I posted about the 3 baby robins in a nest atop an outdoor speaker on the back side of Deb’s and my house and promised to update every week. Here’s […]
Pelican Dive
Marty’s photo of the day #4755: Brown pelican heading into a dive. Photographed last month off the coast of Belize.
Tiny, Tiny, Fungi
Marty’s photo of the day #4754: More fun with “microscope mode” on my new Olympus Tough TG-7 pocket camera. This is fungi on the side of a stump. No matter what device you are using, the image on your screen is much bigger than in real life. The width at the top of the fungi […]
No Bigger Than the Head of a Tack
Marty’s photo of the day #4753: No matter what device you are viewing this longstalk starwort on, the image on your screen is much bigger than in real life. The actual flower is about the size of the head of a tack. I photographed the flower using the “microscope mode” on my new Olympus Tough […]
The Most Beautiful Location on Earth?
Marty’s photo of the day #4752: Having traveled all seven continents and written two books on world travel, I can say that—so far—the most beautiful place I’ve ever been is the reef surrounding the Great Blue Hole, 40 miles off the coast of Belize. That said, Deb’s and my sailing trip in the Coral Triangle […]

Marty’s photo of the day #4751: This is a frigatebird. Photographed last month on an island off the coast of Belize.
Cute Toad
Marty’s photo of the day #4750: Here’s a cute toad close-up. Photographed last month on an island off the coast of Belize.
Baby Robins, Week Two
Marty’s photo of the day #4749: It’s Thursday, and that means Baby Robin Day! As many of you remember, last Thursday (MPOD #4742), I posted about the three baby robins in a nest atop an outdoor speaker on the back side of Deb’s and my house and promised to update every week. I’m happy to […]
