On August 3, 2020, Deb and I adopted Nellie from the Bitter Root Humane Association. The moment I saw Nellie there, I knew she was the one. And for some reason, the woman who assisted us did everything she could to keep us from adopting her (I think she wanted to adopt Nellie too). But in the end, we prevailed. I was not about to take “no” for an answer!
When we adopted Nellie, five years ago, she was a stray, weighing 42 pounds. Now she’s a healthy 62 pounds, has a bionic left-rear leg, and makes my wife and me laugh every single day. As I watched Nellie run yesterday, I commented that she hasn’t slowed down a bit.
Dog people will have many dogs in their life—and a couple that become extra-special favorites. Nellie is one of those rare favorites. Since we could only guess at Nellie’s age, I declared October 31, 2019 as Nellie’s date of birth. I shot this photo on her first birthday.
