Marty’s photo of the day #4474: One of the weirdest moments of Deb’s, Nellie’s, and my stay last week at the Canyon Creek Cabin was visiting the Canyon Creek Charcoal Kilns. From 1884 to 1900, men made charcoal there, which they shipped via horse-drawn wagons to the Glendale smelter, five miles down the road.
We were able to walk through the abandoned site at our leisure. Nellie loved it, because each of the 23 kilns featured another rodent for her to try to make friends with. As for me, this site made me feel a bit uneasy. I don’t believe for a second that these are charcoal kilns. As anyone can plainly see, these are the ancient nests of murder hornets. And someday those murder hornets will return to claim what is theirs. Wahaaaaaa!
