Marty’s photo of the day #4424-4426: Last night, Deb called out, “Marty! Come here. And bring your camera.” On our front porch railing, a major hatch of spiders was taking place. The mother spider wasn’t around, so while I took photos, Deb got a magnifying glass and the National Audubon Society Guide to North American Insects and Spiders. She’s pretty sure they are branch-tip spiders.
These babies were no larger than the head of a pin, so no matter what sized screen you are viewing these photos on, you are seeing them much larger than life. I am posting three photos: one taken with my new Canon R50 mirrorless camera, one taken with my Panasonic ZS100 pocket camera, and one taken with my new Samsung smartphone. Each gives a different perspective. The hardest part was getting any of the cameras to focus on the tiny spiders, so I had to get in real close, lock the focus on something larger, and then shift to the spiders.
When I went to bed, I couldn’t help feeling like I had spiders crawling all over me. And if you like new wave music, you may remember the song “Turning Japanese” by The Vapors. Although The Vapors were just a “one hit wonder,” when I was a DJ at KQDS-FM in Duluth, I used to go deeper into their music and play a song called “Spiders.” That song has been stuck in my head since last night. It’s a fun one. So if you’d like to join the music in my head, put on some good headphones and click here: https://youtu.be/4JMXJQSA7bI
