Yesterday, I posted about a private campsite I found on the Johnstone Strait of Vancouver Island. The campsite was off to the side of the main campground and hidden by a thick wall of temperate rainforest. The only problem with the campsite was that if Deb or I wanted to use the outhouse, we’d have to walk all the way back to the main campground. Then, as we were setting up camp, Deb found a short path leading to the pit latrine in this photo.

Yay! As long as we didn’t mind sitting directly on damp, splintery plywood, we had our own private outhouse.

When Deb declared that she’d rather walk to the public outhouse in the main campground, I brainstormed for a way to make a toilet seat. First, I searched the beach for driftwood. When I couldn’t find any pieces that were the right size, I remembered the pizza box in the back of the truck.

I took a knife to the pizza box and voilà! I had made a wife-approved toilet seat.
