Marty’s photo of the day #3668: Deb, Nellie, and I saw quite a bit of wildlife on our western Montana backpacking trip, last weekend. The Forest Service cabin we rented was in a narrow valley, with mountains on each side. On our first morning, I walked out into a nearby meadow and soon spotted these two mule deer high on the mountainside. I see deer at home every day, but not like these big boys! At the time, the deer were too high up the mountain to photograph, but later that evening we found them again—just a little closer. I had to push my camera past its normal zoom range, into virtual zoom, to capture them, so this photo is a little soft. Nevertheless, we enjoyed watching these two “Kings of the Mountain” for a good fifteen minutes.
