First, Donald Trump arranged for men to violently beat each other for entertainment at the White House. Now his “War Secretary,” Pete Hegseth, is preparing to livestream the firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan.

Upon reading about the public execution, my first thought was, “Maybe this time Trump has gone too far for even his far-right Christian cult.”

My next thought was, “Who am I kidding? Christians have been publicly executing people practically since the beginning of Christianity! It’s almost as if it is in the Christian DNA. And since they don’t have a witch to execute, why not a Muslim?”

I understand that many Christians will be appalled by the livestreamed execution and claim those supporting it aren’t Christian. I respect and appreciate the kind version of Christianity, but that doesn’t mean asshole Christians can’t be Christian. All one needs to do is read the Bible in its entirety to know that. The Bible is an extremely violent book. And as it states multiple times, belief in God is the only requirement to be “saved.”

So sadly, public executions and Christianity have a long shared history. And if the Christian god were real, proclaimed Christian Pete Hegseth would be “saved” and go to heaven. It says so in Romans 10:9 and elsewhere.
