Jonathan Cain, the second keyboardist for the band Journey, has been ranting on right-wing media that Bruce Springsteen should just “shut up” about politics. Really? Why is it that right-wingers get all upset about liberal musicians, actors, and others in the entertainment industry speaking about politics and then think it’s perfectly okay to turn around and vote for Republican entertainers for president? Ronald Reagan was a B-movie actor, and Donald Trump was a fucking television game show host!
And isn’t Jonathan Cain also speaking out about politics by going on right-wing media to criticize Springsteen?
Music has always been political—especially rock ‘n’ roll. How much longer would the Vietnam War have lasted without musicians protesting it?
Bruce Springsteen is an American treasure! Jonathan Cain must be jealous. I mean, how many people reading this even knew he had replaced Gregg Rolie as Journey’s keyboardist?
On a personal level, I have experienced the wrath of right-wingers who believe in free speech for themselves but not for those they disagree with. All of my books have a liberal message—some subtle, some not so subtle—and because of that right-wingers have review bombed (giving bad reviews in mass without even reading) them and even commented on Amazon how terrible it was that I put my politics into “their book.” But yeah, right-wingers are just fine with voting for a B-movie actor and a fucking television game show host as president. No qualifications necessary, just a Republican Party designation.
