Marty’s photo of the day #4816: Perhaps the most notable difference between our two September visits to the American Prairie and our visit of two weeks ago was the mourning doves. By September, the doves had already migrated, but in early July, they were everywhere. Since they began calling at first light, there was no sleeping in—at least for me—during our stay. And I was struck by just how beautiful they were.

Photographed in the American Prairie (formerly the American Prairie Reserve), Montana.
