Marty’s photo of the day #4099: When I saw this bird earlier this month, in Utah’s Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area, I was struck by its beauty. I shot multiple photos, but I didn’t think of the bird as a rare sighting. Then, this morning before posting, I consulted various sources to confirm the ID—because I know if I get it wrong my birder friends out there will promptly correct me!
I think, but I’m not positive, that this is a glossy ibis (nonbreeding plumage). But was that even possible in the Great Salt Lake area? Apparently so—as I found an article about people spotting glossy ibises there for the first time in 2006.
If I’m wrong, I will add a correction later.
*** And here’s the correction (thanks to Kats Peterson). This is a white-faced ibis in nonbreeding plumage.
