Marty’s photo of the day #3836: This is a small part of the Santa Maria del Fiore (the Florence Cathedral) in Florence, Italy. It is the third largest church in the world. I love all the great old Catholic churches in Europe, with their spectacular architecture and artwork. Still, every time I admire these great old buildings a thought creeps into my head: How many nuns were abused in there? How many children were molested? And yet some people reading this now will be pissed at me for mentioning that, when really who they should be pissed at is the Catholic Church for all the lives they ruined and all the years they pretended their worldwide molestation problem didn’t exist. But hey, at least we can agree that the buildings are amazing.
Great old churches make me wonder . . .
