Marty’s photo of the day #3191: Being self-employed often means seldom taking a vacation. Before Deb and I traveled to all seven continents in four years, we had gone ten years without taking a vacation, other than occasional long-weekend backpacking trips. Even then, our seven continents of adventures were technically work, because I turned them into my first book, Cool Creatures: Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents. After that we got into a nice rotation of short Montana getaways with a big adventure every other year.
This year we were hoping to go to Bonaire, an island in the southern Caribbean. Now with the world being shut down due to COVID-19, those plans are on hold. Luckily being self-employed feels much different than driving to an office every day. And living in Montana means an adventure can be right outside your door. As for today’s photo: This is Deb and me in Costa Rica, a few years back on our 30th wedding anniversary. It’s hard to look nice after a sweaty day of exploring the rainforest, but we did our best. That trip, incidentally, became part of my second book, Endangered Edens: Exploring the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica, the Everglades, and Puerto Rico.
