This is a photo I took from the yurt Deb and I rented along the Sea of Cortez in Mexico in 2016. Deb would always sleep in, and I would get up a little before sunrise to go on a hike. During our stay, “beach dog” Toby and I became the best of friends. No matter how early I awoke, Toby would be waiting at the door to begin whatever adventure I had in mind. Saying goodbye to Toby when we left Mexico was absolutely heart-wrenching.
