Since I have placed multiple liberal-political-content warnings on the Amazon pages for Time Is Irreverent and Time Is Irreverent 2: Jesus Christ, Not Again! I have slowed down the negative reviews from right-wingers. Still some, who have obviously not read the novels, trash them anyway:
This one was posted today for Time Is Irreverent:
“Seriously. How Elitist do you have to be to bring politics into a book? Shameful really”
This one was posted last week for Time Is Irreverent 2: Jesus Christ, Not Again! (breaking my string of 16 straight 5-star reviews):
“I am so put out that Christianity is the punching bag to take the hits of those who make it a joke. What if someone did the same with Buddhism or Isslam, or even Atheists? You can bet there would be protests. Loud and even violent protests. My faith is the most important and precious thing to me and I appreciate others having the same respect they would want shown to them. Don’t mock it again.”
I generally don’t respond to right-wing reviews, but this one I felt obligated to respond to. Here’s what I wrote:
“You obviously did not read the book. If you did, you would know that the book only lampoons Christians who ‘abuse scripture’ for financial and political gain. Christians who believe in equal rights, loving one another, and protecting the Earth from corporate greed and pollution have nothing to fear from this novel.”
My wife, Deb, also suggested that I should have brought up the fact that these so-called Christians, who post reviews without reading the books, should go back and read what the Bible says about bearing false witness.
As for my novels, they speak for themselves and will weather the right-wing criticism just fine. In reality, claiming that bringing politics into books is “shameful” says more about the ignorance of the reviewer than anything.
