Marty’s photo of the day #4364: This morning I woke up at 4:00 a.m., and when I couldn’t get back to sleep, I decided to make the most of my morning. I jumped into the shower, left a note for my wife, and drove twenty miles north to the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge. There I gave my new Canon R50 camera and new lenses a good field test. This was one of the first photos I shot this morning. It was a handheld shot, and the sun was just coming up. I thought for sure I was going to get a great photo of the Canada goose, but then this rude sandhill crane decided to photobomb my shot.

In all, I hiked the main trail to the end and spent time at two photo blinds. It will take me a few hours to go through all the shots and then ID some birds I’m unfamiliar with. The great thing about the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge is that every visit guarantees me at least two weeks of “photos of the day.” And just maybe, somewhere in all of this morning’s shots is an unobstructed Canada goose.
