Marty’s photo of the day #4069: As part of my routine to tell aging to “fuck off,” I go on a bike ride each morning that takes me up and down a steep mountain dirt road. I even do it in the winter, with studded tires. I always carry my camera with me on those rides, even though it’s often too dark for photos, and when it’s not too dark, the animals tend to frown on waiting around, while I take my camera out of my pocket and remove it from its case. But every once in a while carrying my camera pays off. I took this sunrise picture this morning. I was at the bottom of the hill, looking east across the Bitterroot Valley. This has been one of the better summers in years, for being smoke-free, but obviously there’s just enough smoke from a distant forest fire to make sunrises and sunsets really pop.
