Marty’s photo of the day #4741: This is an elegant mariposa lily, photographed last Sunday at Deb’s and my “secret spot” in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana.

Photographer’s notes: I often carry two cameras with me: a Canon EOS R50 with a 100-400mm zoom lens attached, and a high-quality pocket camera for close-up and casual shots. For the past few years my pocket camera has been a Panasonic LUMIX ZS100. Last month while in Belize, my Panasonic camera got wet and stopped working. Fortunately, my home insurance covered the damage with a nice check. I used that money to buy an Olympus Tough TG-7.

I’ve never before owned an Olympus camera, but so far, I’m thrilled. Its specialties are toughness (so I carry it in my back pocket without a case) and macro photos. Today’s shot demonstrates its macro prowess.

Oh, and the camera is waterproof down to 50 feet. I suspect that my Sealife 3.0 is a better underwater camera, but there are certain situations where the Olympus will have an advantage. One such occasion will be when Deb and I travel to the Coral Triangle of New Guinea later this year. As part of that adventure, we will snorkel in a secret lake that is filled with stingless jellyfish. My Sealife camera’s minimum focus distance is 15 inches, and my new Olympus Tough TG-7 has a minimum focus distance of less than a half inch.
