One of the reasons we humans love our dogs so much is that they retain adorable, childlike qualities throughout their lives. A few years ago, I got Nellie a soccer ball with handles. Even though she bit a hole in the ball long ago, she doesn’t care and still loves to play with it. That is until I got her a new soccer ball with handles. Both balls sit side-by-side on the porch when not in use. We can be out walking through the forest and if I say, “Go get your ball!” she’ll run back to the house and grab the new ball every time. Yes, just like a child, the new toy is always the best.
