Marty’s photo of the day #4716: Hey everyone! My lack of daily posts has not been because Deb and I were disappeared by ICE or anything. Instead, we returned to Belize for a week of incredible snorkeling and wildlife watching. The island we were on had internet service, but it was slower than old-fashioned landline dial-up. It was okay for emails, but not much else.

We were supposed to return home today, but American Airlines cancelled the domestic portion of our flights, leaving us stranded in Dallas with no proactive help in re-booking. Yes, American Airlines lived up to their reputation for horrible service. Over-and-over, they used weather as an excuse, claiming they couldn’t get us home until next Thursday! Yesterday, after in-person help failed, I spent at least 3 hours on their text customer service, going back-and-forth with multiple customer service people. First, they gave me an acceptable replacement flight that ended up not existing—and I only found out it didn’t exist by trying to verify it later. Then, at 3:00 a.m. last night, after lots of assertiveness by me, I got us a legitimate replacement flight for tomorrow. I travel a lot, and never has an airline treated me so terribly.

Other than that, the Belize trip was awesome—especially the Great Blue Hole, which is surrounded by gorgeous coral and fish.

I will be sharing photos from Belize during the coming weeks. Let’s start with a spotted eagle ray. This ray has a wingspan of somewhere between 7 and 10 feet. The water was rocking and rolling at the time and cloudy, so I was pleased this photo turned out as clear as it did.
