I photographed this alligator while working on my second nonfiction book, Endangered Edens: Exploring the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica, the Everglades, and Puerto Rico. Spending time in the Everglades with alligators also influenced a subplot in my latest novel, The Silver Squad: Rebels With Wrinkles.
