Marty’s photo of the day #4493: Deb and I have returned from 13 wonderful days on the island of Bonaire, surrounded by 2 travel days getting there and 2 travel days getting home. All of them bookended by a hurricane hitting Texas, just a day after we had a connecting flight in Dallas, and a hurricane hitting Florida, just a day after we had a connecting flight in Miami. How’s that for timing?
I posted some photos, videos, and stories from our adventures while we were on the island, but I’ve shared only a fraction of what I have. Overall, I shot roughly 1,100 above water photos and 2,000 underwater photos. I also shot at least 50 short videos. Ultimately, I’ll end up posting about 1 percent of those images—many in the next few weeks, and the rest over years, mixed in with my photos from all seven continents.
Today’s photo shows a blue tang and a banded butterflyfish among the fire coral. The coral, by the way, is supposed to pack a wallop if you touch it (hence the name). Neither Deb nor I touched the coral, but I had a few close calls while snorkeling in shallow water looking for octopuses and other sea creatures. The waves would come in, pushing me one way, and then ricochet off rocks alongshore, pushing me the other way.
