Marty’s photo of the day #4458: So, I must admit that I was torn last night. Many months ago, I bought tickets for Deb (wife), Sean (son), and me to attend the Pearl Jam concert in Missoula. But last night also turned out to be Kamala Harris’s acceptance speech, which I really wanted to see. The expensive concert tickets won out, and Pearl Jam put on a superb show, worth every dollar.
I’ll catch a replay of Queen Kamala’s speech later today. The Pearl Jam concert was also political, as the band turned the encore into a rally for Montana Senator Jon Tester, who is up for reelection. For those that don’t know, Jon Tester and Pearl Jam’s bassist, Jeff Ament, are both from tiny Big Sandy, Montana.
As a Democrat, somehow Tester still manages to win elections here in Trumpy-Montana, and the band obviously plays a part in that—doing something for him every election cycle. This year, Tester winning could be the difference between a Democratic-controlled US Senate and a Republican-controlled US Senate. In today’s photo, Pearl Jam dons Jon Tester T-shirts for their encore (a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World”). And earlier in the show, frontman Eddie Vedder, poked Donald Trump about crowd-size, pointing out that Pearl Jam’s crowd was three times larger than what Trump drew in Montana a few weeks ago. (The show was sold out, with roughly 25,000 people).
