Marty’s photo of the day #4744: Our dog, Nellie, gets the credit for this photo. Last night, we were out for a walk in the Essen Wildlife Refuge, when she insisted something to play with was under a log. I thought she’d found a mouse, but it turned out to be a western skink. When young, these skinks have bright blue tails. This one was an adult. The challenge with this photo was that I was carrying my Canon R50 camera with a zoom lens attached. Therefore, I had to wait for the fast-moving skink to “pose,” back up far enough to get the skink in focus—all while making sure Nellie didn’t make a dash for her find. The skink is now safely back under his/her log.
