Marty’s photo of the day #4406: It’s been 21 years since Deb’s and my epic trip to the top of Canada, which was featured in my first book, Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents. The drive from Montana is longer than driving from New York City to Los Angeles and back.
This photo shows a small part of the Porcupine caribou migration—the longest land-based migration on Earth—which we were lucky enough to catch last time.
This fall I look forward to repeating that trip, only with a few differences that will include a partial route change, a new dog (Nellie replacing Kate and Annie), a new truck (my 2023 Ford Maverick replacing my 1999 Ford F-150 pickup, while providing nearly three times the gas mileage), and better, more powerful camera gear. My wife, however, will remain the same (sometimes the original is still the best).
While photographing and hiking with the Porcupine caribou migration will certainly be one of our goals, finding the migration on two trips in a row would require an incredible amount of luck.
