Marty’s photo of the day #4189: This is Fred, a young eyelash viper. For the entire week Deb and I were in Costa Rica, Fred hung out on a giant leaf near the door of our yurt. Each time we came and went, we would take a moment to greet Fred—a courtesy he “obviously” appreciated. Then, on the day we packed up to leave, Fred moved on too.

Yes, eyelash vipers are venomous, but we were never worried he would bite us. We treated him with respect, and venomous snakes would really rather save their venom for killing something they can eat.
