Marty’s photo of the day #4087: Aw! It’s a baby yellow-bellied racer. I shot this photo two weeks ago, while on vacation in the American Prairie Reserve. Deb (wife), Nellie (dog), and I were near the end of a long hike—just at the point where we were hot, tired, and thirsty—when I spotted this snake in my path. He was a speedy little guy, and at first I didn’t think I was going to be fast enough to get a quality photo. Then the feisty little snake changed tactics, coiled up, and started striking at my camera lens. I stayed just long enough to make sure I captured a quality image before letting the snake continue on with his day. This nonvenomous snake will reach about five feet in length when full-grown.
