Marty’s photo of the day #3311: Yesterday was the end of Lucy. Ten years ago, when Lucy was six, she had X-rays after a hip popped out wrestling with another one of our dogs. The vet said not only were her hips shot, but she had a tendon ready to snap. When that happened she’d never walk again. He gave her six months. Well, Lucy surpassed her expiration date by ten years! This week her back legs finally gave out, and we had to put her to sleep. Naturally, Deb and I are sad, but at least for me, I’ve had ten years preparing for the end of Lucy, so I feel like I received a ten year-long gift.
Within the past couple years, we’ve lost all three of our elderly dogs: Lucy (age 16), Buddy (age 19), and Bella (age 11), all to having their back legs get so arthritic they could no longer walk. So for the first time in a long time we are dogless. I would love to find a Labrador retriever, golden retriever, or a similar sized mixed breed. We’ve been scouting the Humane Association and haven’t found a match. So if anyone knows of available dogs in the Missoula/Bitterroot Valley area please send me the info. Since we just went through caring for three elderly dogs, I’m not interested in any dog older than three years, I prefer medium-sized, and nothing with any pit bull in it.
