Audiobooks are wonderful, but they’re time consuming to produce. I’m currently working with Nate C. Maughan, the great narrator for my new novel, Time Is Irreverent 2: Jesus Christ, Not Again! I know a lot of authors do their own narration, but I don’t do multiple voices, and I think audiobooks should be performances, not just dry narration.
For the past month, I have been living with headphones on, going back-and-forth with Nate, making sure he doesn’t miss any words and that he projects my vision. We’re about a week from being done, and the audiobook is going to be hilarious. Last night Nate sent me a section, where he portrays Nellie Dixon doing a Valley Girl routine about people who don’t vote. I literally broke into applause!
Still, I can’t wait to get these headphones off. Look for the audiobook in mid-March.
