Marty’s photo of the day #3619: Deb, Nellie, and I have a backpacking trip planned for this summer as well as a fall trip to the very top of Canada. I usually carry a small pocket camera along with a Canon DSLR with several lenses. Our upcoming adventures served as an excuse to buy a new camera. Small cameras have come a long way in recent years, and I just purchased a Panasonic DMC-ZS100, which all but bridges the gap between all-in-ones and DSLRs. It has a bigger sensor chip than most pocket cameras, and my hope is that it can spare me having to carry a big honking lens on our summer backpacking trip. I just got the camera yesterday afternoon, and this photo of Deb and Nellie is one of the first pictures from it. The camera comes with a 406 page manual, so there’s a ton of advanced features to learn—but for a camera nerd that’s a weekend full of enjoyment!
