Pizza, beer, and mallards

Marty’s photo of the day #3000: A few years ago Deb and I started a new tradition of grabbing some beers and picking up a pizza on the way to the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge. We stop along the dirt road at the edge of the big pond, set up lawn chairs, and have a picnic while bird watching. I think we’re a bit of a spectacle, because when people slowly drive by on the road, their expressions often say, “Why didn’t we think of that?”

Last night the pizza and beer was good, but the birds were a little shy. So I didn’t get many good photos. I kind of like this one that I took of a female mallard, during our “work-off the beer and pizza” hike on one of the trails.
