Yesterday, as their contribution to LGBT Pride Month, the Catholic Church rejected that people can be intersex or transgender by issuing a bigoted document called “Male and Female He Created Them.”
One thing followers of the Bible have failed to realize is that people are better educated today and more likely to do a little questioning research. I’ll play the Bible verse game with anyone—and win. So here we go:
Catholic Church: Male and Female He Created Them. (Genesis 1:27)
Marty Essen: First tell me how “He” created them, because the Bible contains two conflicting stories about how God created women. Did God create Eve on the fifth day in his own image (Genesis 1:27)? Or did he create Eve sometime after the seventh day (an afterthought following the creation of cattle and fowl) out of Adam’s rib (Genesis 2:22)?
Isn’t it long past time we stop using the Bible to justify discrimination? It was written by ancient people who didn’t know any better. We know better now!
