Nature photography, political rants, and Martyman laughs from the ten-time award-winning author of "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet," "Endangered Edens," and the "Time Is Irreverent" series.

The deadliest snake in the western hemisphere

Marty’s photo of the day #2694: Fer-de-lances are the deadliest snakes in the western hemisphere, but they aren’t the most venomous. Others, such as bushmasters, have venom that is more potent. Fer-de-lances kill more people, because they blend in so well with the leaf litter on the forest floor and readily bite if stepped on (and who could blame them?).
