Marty’s photo of the day #2229: When I took this photo, I was standing inside the caldera of a volcano, at Deception Island, near Antarctica.
Ocean water fills the much of the interior of the Deception Island volcano, and there used to be a whaling station there. Fortunately, Mother Nature destroyed the whaling station with an eruption, leaving only a few whaling vessels sticking out of the volcanic ash. Yay nature!
