When historians look back at Donald Trump, the chances are good that they will see this as his defining quote: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters. Okay?”

Personally, when I think of Trump, the fable of “The Scorpion and the Frog” immediately comes to mind. In other words, I do not fault Trump for being a greedy, heartless, pathological liar, who idolizes Putin. It’s his nature.

Consequently, nothing in Trump’s presidency so far, including his firing of James Comey, should surprise anyone. He’s exactly the man his supporters voted for!

So the root of the problem isn’t Donald Trump. It’s the brainwashed, unquestioning, bigoted people who voted for him, and their lack of buyer’s remorse.

Want proof? To any reasonably intelligent person, it’s obvious that Trump fired Comey so he can appoint a puppet FBI Director who will cover up his treasonous Russian connections. Trump voters, however, blindly look the other way. In fact, read the comments below any on-line news story about the Comey firing and you’ll find Trump supporters vigorously defending their cult leader.

Yes, Donald Trump really could shoot someone and not lose his followers. That, to me, is far more scary than the man himself.
