Nature photography, political rants, and Martyman laughs from the ten-time award-winning author of "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet," "Endangered Edens," and the "Time Is Irreverent" series.

The Porcupine Caribou Migration

Marty’s photo of the day #2059: In my college show, “Around the World in 90 Minutes,” I talk about greedy oil companies and politicians who lobby to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by claiming that the Arctic is just a “bunch of nothing.” Then I show a series of photos that demonstrates just how wrong they are.

Today’s photo is of the Porcupine caribou migration—the longest land migration on Earth. Each spring roughly 100,000 caribou migrate 700 miles, from Canada to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, to have their babies.
