Marty’s photo of the day #2162: This is the start of the Jago River in the Brooks Range. Here the river is frozen. But just a few miles to the north, the river enters the lower-level plains of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and melts. That’s where Deb and I got into inflatable canoes and paddled 35 miles across the refuge to the Arctic Ocean.
This photo is also featured in my latest book, Endangered Edens: Exploring the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica, the Everglades, and Puerto Rico.
