Nature photography, political rants, and Martyman laughs from the ten-time award-winning author of "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet" and "Endangered Edens."

Marty and the Whip-Scorpion

Marty’s photo of the day #1826: Here’s an untouched photo Deb took of me in the Amazon Rainforest. This was part of the photo shoot for the cover of my first book, Cool Creatures, Hot Planet, and that’s a tailless whip-scorpion climbing up my face. This particular shot wasn’t chosen for the cover, but I like it, as the heat and humidity in the Amazon Rainforest made sweat bead up on my face—giving the appearance that I was frightened, not just hot.
