The rare and cool Australian Lace-Lid Frog

Lace-Lid Frog

Marty’s photo of the day #1773: It’s “CC, HP: ESC Month,” featuring photos and excerpts from my first book, Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents.
Today’s photo is from the Queensland. Australian lace-lid frogs are classified as “endangered” by the IUCN. They reach two and a half inches in length. At first glance lace-lid frogs don’t appear to be unusual, but when they close their eyes, you can see eyelid veins in a distinct lacelike design.
