Marty’s photo of the day #1685: I’m not sure if Deb likes this photo, but it’s one of my favorites of her. She is in our tiny room at the Hotel Schwarzsee. This hotel is at the base of the Matterhorn, and you can only get there by gondola. When you see pictures of the Matterhorn, it looks like you can walk right up to it. Instead, it is essentially a mountain atop a mountain. Hotel Schwarzsee is on top of the initial mountain, and from there you could look down into the city of Zermatt or up to the Matterhorn. At night the gondola is turned off, trapping guests at the hotel.
Regarding this photo: Deb is taking notes of the day’s events. We both took notes, and it helped to have both sets to resolve discrepancies when I was writing my first book, “Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents.” If you haven’t read it yet, the Matterhorn section in my “Surprisingly Europe” chapter contains some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever written.
