Marty’s photo of the day #1676: As many of you know, my wife and I were attacked by a hippo when we canoed down the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe*. The hippo bit through the center of our canoe, lifted us six feet into the air, and threw us on the riverbank. In the process, the hippo’s lower tusks ripped through the bottom of our canoe and its top teeth broke the gunwale. So when you look at this photo, know that a canoe could fit inside this hippo’s mouth.
*This adventure is described, in detail, in my first book, Cool Creatures, Hot Planet.
