Hiking with the Migration

Marty’s photo of the day #1680: Yesterday’s photo was of a Dall sheep in the Yukon Territory. Today we stay in the far north and go hiking with the Porcupine caribou migration. These caribou go on the longest migration of any land animal on Earth. They start in Canada and work their way northwest to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (that beautiful, natural place in Alaska, where Republicans and the oil companies want to drill) to have their babies. The total migration length is 700 miles. Deb and I only hiked with the herd for a few hours, but the experience was something we will treasure for a lifetime!
