Nature photography, political rants, and Martyman laughs from the ten-time award-winning author of "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet" and "Endangered Edens."

James Bond Point

James Bond Point

Marty’s photo of the day #1548: It’s “Didn’t Make the Cut Week,” featuring photos that I carefully considered for my new book, Endangered Edens (now available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble), but decided to leave out.

This photo from Costa Rica almost graced the opening page of my book. Both my wife, Deb, and my book designer, Deborah, lobbied for it, as they thought it “invited the reader in for an adventure.” Although they had a good point, I ultimately overruled the Deb(orah)s, as I wanted an animal shot, not a scenery shot, to greet the reader. A riverside wren opens the book instead.

I named the spot you are looking at “James Bond Point,” as it screamed for a high-speed boat chase to come through—with James grabbing the overhanging vine just before the boats crashed into the rocks.
