Nature photography, political rants, and Martyman laughs from the ten-time award-winning author of "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet," "Endangered Edens," and the "Time Is Irreverent" series.

Alaska Pipeline in the Wilderness

Alaska Pipeline

Marty’s photo of the day #1545: It’s “Didn’t Make the Cut Week,” featuring photos that I carefully considered for my new book, Endangered Edens (now available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble), but decided to leave out.

In the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge chapter, Deb and I visit both the Arctic Refuge and the Prudhoe Bay oil field. The contrast between the two areas (which are less than 100 miles apart) is appalling, and the photos and stories in my book will document that in a powerful way. This picture shows the Alaska Pipeline cutting across the tundra. I like this shot, but the photos in the book that actually show the oil field tell the story better.
