Mother and Baby Elk

Mother and baby elk

Marty’s photo of the day #1491: Yesterday I posted a photo of a mother moose and her baby in my front yard. Today we stay with the mother and baby theme, but switch to my back yard. We have a tall window-wall that faces the woods behind our house. And since the woods drop into a bowl below us, we see a lot of wildlife. Even so, in 19 years, we have only seen elk on the higher part of our land—in front of the house—never the lower land, behind the house. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I checked my back yard motion-sensing camera yesterday, and learned that a mother elk and her baby have been hanging around. It’s amazing how such big animals can still go unseen.
