Nature photography, political rants, and Martyman laughs from the ten-time award-winning author of "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet," "Endangered Edens," and "Time Is Irreverent."

M is for Marmoset

Marty’s photo of the day #1466: It’s “Animals A thru Z Month.” Each day in June, I will post an animal I’ve photographed—somewhere in the world—in alphabetical order. I’ll post the letter “M” and three others, twice (with different animals) to fill out the month.

M is for Marmoset. I photographed this girl and her pet pygmy marmoset in an Amazon Rainforest village. Because of our language difference, I never found out how the girl acquired the marmoset. I was, however, able to convince the girl to let me hold her marmoset for a few minutes by offering the international universal of the jungle: a t-shirt. Pygmy marmosets are the world’s smallest monkeys—weighing just 3 to 5 ounces.
